Charleston SC Real Estate Blog: 2011 Plantation Days at Middleton Place
Plantation Days at Middleton Place will take place Saturday & Sunday, October 15th & 16th & November 12 & 13, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the regular admission price.
Craftworkers demonstrate the skills practiced by slaves as they prepared the antebellum plantation for harvest time. Different aspects of 18th and 19th-century plantation life will be explored: Domestic Skills, African American Culture including Gullah Storytelling, Low Country Food ways and the Plantation Natural Environment.
October Plantation Days ongoing activities include tailoring, candle making, canvas working (Saturday only), corn grinding, the” What is it?" Table, rice pounding & fanning, an active honeybee hive, culinary/medicinal herbs and spices, and food storage & preservation
Also visit the Blacksmith, Potter & Cooper/Carpenter in their shops.
Timed Events:
1. Gullah Storytelling at Eliza's House - 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. & 3:00 p.m. (Saturday only)
2. African-American Focus Tours ($5 per person) - 12:00 p.m. & 2:00 p.m. at Eliza's House
3. Water Buffalo Demonstration - 10:30 a.m. at the pond
4. Tug of War with Horse - 1:30 p.m. behind the barn
5. Brick Making - 2:00 p.m. at the pottery shop
