Charleston SC Real Estate Blog: The Heart Woodfire Kitchen on James Island
The Heart Woodfire Kitchen is located at 1622 Highland Avenue on James Island just one block off of Folly Road. The Heart Woodfire Kitchen opened in Mid December 2011 and is the creation of Owner / Chef Glenn Christiansen. Lois and I were there early on a Thursday evening, before 5:00 PM, we were greeted by the General Manager Devin Marguardt. The service was pleasant, quick, and efficient.
 
I had a hamburger and Lois had a blackened catfish sandwich. The food was excellent and the prices were even better. The menu includes soups, salads, snacks, sandwiches, rotisserie chicken, woodfired oven flatbread and much more. They also serve a Saturday and Sunday brunch which I intend to check out in the near future. Here is a look at the complete menu. Menu changes daily

Charleston SC Real Estate Blog: The West Ashley Mellow Mushroom
The West Ashley Mellow Mushroom is located at 19 Magnolia Road in the West Ashley Triangle District. The Mellow Mushroom recently opened in late fall 2011 and is owned and operated by the local owners of Downtown Charleston’s Mellow Mushroom located at 309 King Street.
 
The West Ashley Mellow Mushroom was previously the West Ashley Movie Theatre and has been renovated painstakingly to keep as many of those features as possible while incorporating a “green renovation concept” by utilizing many recycled products.
The food is exceptional with an emphasis on pizza, sandwiches, and salads. As good as the food is the prices and the service is even better. I highly recommend the West Ashle Mellow Mushroom to anyone with a hunger for pizza or great subs / sandwiches.

Charleston SC Real Estate Blog: Cherrywood BBQ and Ale House on Kiawah Island
Cherrywood BBQ and Ale House is located at the Osprey Point Clubhouse on Kiawah Island. Lois and I ate lunch there this past Sunday. Our food and service were both outstanding. Cherrywood BBQ features beef, pork, chicken, salmon, and shrimp hose smoked entrées along with outstanding salads and burgers. You can eat insides or out on the veranda overlooking a pond with a healthy population of alligators.

Here are some additional dining options on Kiwaha Island. While on Kiawah Island you should stop at Freshfields Village and check out the shops.

Charleston SC Real Estate: The Golden Cup Café on Johns Island
The Golden Cup Café is located in the Piggly Wiggly shopping center at the intersection of Maybank Highway and Main Road. Lois and I have eaten there several times since The Golden Cup Café opened in 2009. The food staff is outstanding, service is quick, price is fair and the food is excellent. The Golden Cup Café is a unique combination of a Deli, a Café, and a full service restaurant.
The Golden Cup Café menu includes salads, sandwiches, southern entrees, seafood along with great desserts, coffee, lattes, etc. The brunch on Saturday and Sunday is very good.
We last ate there about two weeks ago. Chef Julia Barstow, who is from Louisiana, told us that in the very near future the Golden Cup Café will be open for evening meals. The Golden Cup Café is open for breakfast and lunch during the week and a brunch on Saturday and Sunday.
The Golden Cup Café is located at 3575 Maybank Hwy Suite F, Johns Island, SC 29455.

Sat - Sun: 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

California Dreaming Restaurant is nestled on the west side of the Ashley River just across the Ashley River from the City Marina at #1 Ashley Pointe Drive. California Dreaming has it all, fantastic views of the Ashley River, great location with easy access from Downtown Charleston, West Ashley, James Island, and Mount Pleasant, excellent food, great prices, and a very helpful and courteous staff.
Lois and I have eaten there many times over the years and have never been disappointed. California Dreaming serves steaks, seafood, ribs, prime rib, sandwiches and salads. You have to try the honey-butter croissants.

Chez Fish Restaurant on Johns Island Reopens
Chez Fish reopened in March under new ownership after about a two year hiatus. The Chez Fish’s original chef Rene Constantin is back part owner and chef. Constantin brings back many of Chez Fish's original recipes and dishes as well as a list of new favorites and classic updates to the menu. He served as chef from 2003 until 2006.
Lois and I ate lunch there this past Sunday. The food was superb and the waitress was very courteous and the prices very reasonable.
Chez Fish's new owners have been working on the restaurant for just over a year. The dining room has been renovated and redecorated featuring work of local artists.
Chez Fish also features a fresh fish market inside the restaurant and plans are in the works for a produce market featuring a bounty from Richard Tolbert's nearby farm.
Chez Fish is open seven days a week, from 11am until 10pm at 3966 Betsy Kerrison Parkway on Johns Island near Kiawah Island and Seabrook Island. The restaurant is open for brunch on Saturday and Sunday.

Tommy Condon’s Irish Pub & Seafood Restaurant in Downtown Charleston
Tommy Condon’s is an authentic Irish pub located in Downtown Charleston’s French Quarter neighborhood on Church Street just a half block south of market Street. The atmosphere at Tommy Condon’s is very down-home friendly. The menu has a distinctive Irish flair with many Irish entrée’s featured, along with a good selection of burgers, sandwiches, seafood and my two favorites’ fish and chips and chicken fingers. Tommy Condon’s has an exceptional “little leprechauns” menu. Lois and I have eaten there many times and the food is very good, the staff excellent and prices are fair.

There are four major sections to this authentic pub and restaurant - an outdoor covered deck (which seats 100) where you can relax and watch the city go by, a warm interior pub section with a big friendly hardwood bar where "everyone knows your name," and a back dining room with wainscoted walls and paintings of the old country to make you long for the old sod.

Molly Darcy’s Irish Pub and Restaurant in Downtown Charleston
Molly Darcy’s is located on East Bay Street just north of Market Street in Downtown Charleston’s Upper Concord neighborhood. Molly Darcy’s opened in the fall of 2010. The Fat Hen Restaurant on Johns Island
The Fat Hen has a very relaxed casual feeling and the staff is very helpful and pleasant. The Fat Hen’s menu consists of good Lowcounrty dishes with a noticeable French flair. The food is very good and fairly priced. The Sunday Brunch is out standing. The Fat Hen’s menu has something for everyone.
 
Lois and I have eaten there several times. This past Sunday we ate Bruch with several friends and we were not disappointed. The food was excellent.

Lois and I eat at the Starfish Grille frequently. The service is outstanding, the portions large and the prices are good. The Sunday Brunch is a popular stop for the local church crowd. The menu includes salads, seafood, Greek cuisine, steaks, sandwiches, and excellent deserts.
