James Island is situated to the south of Wappoo Creek and Charleston
Harbor, north of Morris Island, Folly Beach to the east, and the Stono
River along with John's Island to the West. While the town has been
incorporated, the town limits do not incorporate the entire island of
James Island. There are approximately 20,000 residents in the town and
approximately 18,000 in Charleston's city limits. It is largely a
residential community located only minutes from downtown Charleston and
Folly Beach.
